Creating schools within schools? A mixed- methods study of in-school discipline strategies and racial stratification in educational opportunity
What are the technical, normative and political dimensions of in-school discipline?
This mixed methods study examines the racialized use, educational conditions, and equity implications of in-school punitive discipline strategies. The investigation will draw on school discipline records, interviews with school staff, and classroom observations to provide a holistic picture of these practices. Given civil rights concerns about in-school discipline, we will use an equity minded school change framework to explore the technical, normative, and political dimensions related to the use of these approaches.
